Hi everybody! I would like to get an MP3 player for my daughter (soon to be 12) but I really don't know much about them. My father has a SanDisk and he's really happy with it, but I'd like to do more research and get more info just to make sure I cover all my options. Do any of you have any suggestions or information that might help me out? Thanks!

Hiya Kristine My entire clan has iPods. My wife has a little iPod shuffle, and the kids have iPod Nano's. I actually have a Dell MP3 player. The benefits of the iPod are that you can get a lot of accessories for it, such as iHome (a clock radio that you can dock, charge and play your iPod on), and iTrip (to listen to it over your vehicles speakers), just to name a couple. The only problems that I see with the iPod is that they appear to have to be dedicated to just one music library - that is, one computer. I do not know if there is any way around that. Another related problem is that you cannot use your iPod to transport the music from one computer to another. The Dell, on the other hand, allows you to use the MP3 player like a thumb drive in that aspect; it allows you to copy music to and from the player to and from any computer. Still, I would go with an iPod Nano for a 12 year old because it is acceptable among todays youth, whereas Dell-pods and Sandisks probably are not. Furthermore, I spent the extra dough and bought protection plans on both of my kids' iPods. They [protection plans] have already paid for themselves. These devices are fragile and their earbuds are delicate. I hope that has provided you with some more insight. Let me know how it goes. Ciao, Bob

Thanks Bob. I do like the ipods, I just wish they weren't so darned expensive. That's why I was leaning towards the MP3 player. If it were up to my daughter, she'd have the ipod that you can download movies and videos on. I told her when she gets a job she can have whatever she can buy! LOL

I love my IPOD. When I was in Japan last year a fan bought me the then new 40 GB one that you can watch movies on. It's great. Make sure you get a protective case for it.
