Sorry to be the bearer of freaky news, but John is a registered sex offender. He is currently considered released (I just checked the FDLE website a few minutes ago), however, he was previously under supervision. He was convicted of possession of child pornography. He was always so quiet in school -- who would've thought... Makes you wonder what on earth happened to him to make him do what he did... Frankly, I hope he doesn't find this website. I don't think I would be comfortable with him looking at pictures of our kids.

OK, I talked with the boss (my wife), and while I am a bleeding heart liberal who wants to believe that everyone is wrongly convicted, she reminds me that .
"I am a dumbass, and we have pictures of our kids posted on the site"
so with this in mind we will move forward without Mr. Ambro at this time.

I don't even remember the guy to be truthful. But I concur with the "boss" aka Clark's wife.

Do you want to hear another sad part about it....
He was working for the Sheriff's Dept at the time he was arrested.
I really don't understand what goes through peoples minds

I knew John Ambro and probably even hung out with him a few times. Never saw the whole kiddie thing coming, but who does? I thought he was a decent guy back then. Here's a question to all of you though (and maybe it should go onto the stupid polls board): If he was already a member and you found out about the charges, would you deny him access? Also, if anyone knows the case, why was he charged? I only say that because a co-worker of mine got charged with statutory rape when he was younger and it has followed him around ever since (at least that's the story he is telling.) He says he was in his early 20's dating a high school girl. Her parents pressed charges. Yes, dating her was a poor decision and probably a bit perverted, but unfortunately it seems to be socially acceptable these days. Whatever the case, let it be known that I am neither defending John Ambro nor the decision to exclude him from this board. I just wanted to, perhaps, do some fact finding. -Bob

I too have known some people that have convictions against them that sound more serious than the crime they commited..
I have a good friend that was trying to attempt suicide after his wife left him. Someone called the police and when they showed up he waved the gun he was going to kill himself with.
The good news is they talked him down, the bad news is he got charged with 8 counts of what amounted to pointing a loaded gun at a policeman... one count for every officer there, among other charges.. he did hard time for what was in reality a suicide attempt .
I don't know what Johns actual crime was, it does sound pretty vile on it's face..
In all my googleing I found more than a couple of classmates of ours in what looks like a tough spot, other than Bruno Moore, I haven't mentioned them..
sorta hard to look past stuff involving kids..

Clark, there is nothing worse, in my humble opinion, than child crimes. I do support you and the decision not to include anyone questionable. If he is innocent of a child crime, then I am sure that he can understand and appreciate the precautions being taken. You're doing a great job and I hope you did not think I was questioning your decision, and if you did, I am truly sorry for the misunderstanding.

I don't know where I stand on this entire issue, on the one hand after you've done your time.. you should be able to move on, on the other hand, as a parent, I want to know who these people are and where they live after they get out.. maybe I doubt if there is a way to "cure" our urges despite how taboo they might be.

Clark, I agree with you that once someone has done their time they should be able to move forward with their life. I truly believe that some people do learn from their mistakes. However, I have to admit that when it comes to crimes against children I have a much harsher opinion of those convicted. I can't help it, I guess it just comes with the territory of being a Mom. I certainly didn't mean to stir up such a hornet's nest with my update on John. I hope I haven't upset anyone. I think you made the right choice by excluding John from this website. I could look past a drug charge or something of that sort, but it's hard to look past possession of child porn.

From what I know and understand of it all.... John was working as a detention deputy at the jail at the same time I was working out there. He was there one day and then gone the next. What was told to us was that John had been arrested by the Feds on 17 counts of child porn and they took his computer. He did do time but I never found out how much and I'm not sure if he is suppose to have access to a computer. In most cases of child porn the offenders are not allowed to possess a computer anymore. I'm with Kristine, I can over look a drug charge but not child porn.
