Car we drove in high school

So I had read this article before when I was in Orlando about the students driving better cars than the teachers. I dont really remember our parking lot looking like a fancy new car dealership. Does everyone remember what they drove in high school. I had this horrible 1970 Ford Maverick. It was a hand me down from my sister. It had rust in the floorboards so you can see some of the highway under you. That car would never die no matter how hard I tried to kill it. I dont remember if the air conditioning worked or not. My father put it by the road at his shop when he went to sell it. I drove by one night and two bums were sitting around it. I cant believe he even got $ 300.00 for it. ( I think that's how much he paid for it)

Sigh...I didn't have a car in high school. Yes, I was the only senior on the bus in 1986!!!!! I guess it all comes back to that being sheltered thing. LOL!! That and having no money!!!!

Mine was a 76 green Plymouth Scamp. Another car that you couldn't kill. Here's a pic of what the car looked like that I found on the net

First it was of them Ford Pintos with the blow up engines, lol!

Then I got a job and saved all my tip money and bought an Audi 5000S diesel 5 speed turbo car from my Dad just before my senior year -- it was sweet! Had heated leather seats and a moon roof- a Blaupunkt (sp?) stereo/speakers, yadda yadda.

Dang I can't believe I even traded it for a stupid car that I never kept (after HS and once married).

I loved that car. Someday I'll post a pic of it. Lord knows I took so many pictures of that car, lol I was crazy.

This is a good subject! It is true that the kids are driving nicer cars than the teachers, at least out here on Long Island. Teachers, who are grossly underpaid, drive around in decent cars, but the students cruise around here in nice Hummers, Mercedes, BMW's and the like. My own daughter is learning how to drive in a Pacifica or in my convertible. Spoiled brat! When she gets her license (next month ), she already has her sights set on getting a new car. Oh boy. The fun begins. None the less, though, it is a part of growing up. As for the car I drove, it was a 1977 Caprice Classic that was a sleeper hotrod. I bought it from Andrew Willet (remember Andrew?) already suped up. I ended up selling it up here to a junk yard for 75 bucks. I had to, it had no heat and was piling up parking tickets.

I sadly didn't have a car in highschool...I mostly got rides from friends, or my mom who had the crappiest cars ever and refused to drop me off outside the school gates despite all of my begging and pleading! Not sure which was worse, her coming to school with the beehive hair, or dropping me off in the old rust bomb!

My dad bought me a 1975 Caprice Classice Convertible that he fully restored for my graduation present. My mom deemed it "unsafe" due to the fact it was a convertible and made me trade it for a "sensible 4 door". These days I have a sporty little Toyota Camry that my daughter will inherit in 2 years when she gets her license. Funny thing is, she is complaining about getting a USED car for her first car! Yes, kids today are spoiled ROTTEN but I think it's mostly our faults!

I didn't get my first car until my senior year because my parents made me pay for it myself ($1,000). It took me forever to save up that much money. Anyway, it was a '76 Plymouth Volare (yes, like the song!). It was a great car until, one day, it decided to stop going in reverse. Therefore, I had to park in spots where I could pull straight through to get out. When I got to IRCC, they didn't allow you to park facing out (they had to be able to see your parking pass) so I had to park in spots that slanted down so I could coast out of the spot. One day, I must've had a brain fart because I parked in a spot that sloped up and I had to push that stupid car out! How embarrassing! And you know at least a half dozen people walked by me and didn't even help!

Honestly, I never noticed that it matched. It match my dates dress. Her Mom made my tie & cumber bun.

Thank the maker I rose out of nerd status and now sitting comfortably at Geek status ;D

I wasn't lucky enough to have a car, I rode the cheese wagon all through high school. I had to graduate high school before I got one. We were poor and my mother figured I'd do too much destruction in the neighborhoods I drove through . Kudos to you James for the nice color cordination of the tie and car detail.
