I'm a little out of the loop -- are they demolishing the whole school or just a portion of it? It's kind of sad...

OMG I didn't know they were demo'ing the school!!!!!!!
Why?
Shit, I need to be down there watching it all happen......
I guess by now its done though, huh?
They tore the school down up here too last year but that was because they built a brand new one in its place. They had an auction of everything beforehand. They even auctioned off the gym floors up here. I have VERY OLD red bricks lining my flower gardens (they auctioned off bricks even lol).
The images and pics I took from up here look so similar to what you posted above.
I'll go dig some up.
Tell me, are there any bricks stacked up or old ANYTHING someone can stop and pick up for me? I'm very nostalgic and would PayPal for shipping (well maybe not BRICKS lol) to me so I could place a 'piece' of my history here in my garden or house somewhere.....

Here is the image of the cranes taking down the back gym. We were standing in an adjoining driveway so were VERY close. See, Mechanicsburg's School is K-12 (yes they still do that in America lol) and the original was built in 1894 and was dubbed 'The best small school in Ohio'. So, when it was coming down trust me the entire town showed up. They had lawn chairs and made a week out of it, I am totally not kidding. It was big to the people in the Village. Here is a cool pic of the cranes: (notice the kids basically hanging over the fence) And I love this picture of my son just watching. I always imagine, "What is he thinking?" when I look at this picture:

Yep, melancholy is a good word for it....
Its like, "well we must be getting old if our high school is getting ripped down" or something like that.
Why are they tearing it down, is it to build a new one or what?
Up here, in our case, the building was over a hundred years old and badly outdated. It wasnt' up to code, had poor handicapped accessibilities, etc..
I can't imagine FPC could have been any worse, but there had to be some reason.
Its unbelievable that in Ohio we pay so many more taxes than in Florida. I was in shell shock my first year.
Not only do we pay the usual Federal but also State, city to include the city you live in and the city taxes where you work (if different than where you live) plus individual school zone taxes too.
Each year we have to file 5 tax forms instead of the one I was accustomed to....
I hope they are building a new FPC in its place and keep the name, but I have no idea what their plans are.
We had such a fight here in this community- people had to agree to a new bigger tax levy along with a huge help from Uncle Sam dollar for dollar along with donated land before we could get the new school.
What we have now is so freakin state of the art, its like unbelievable to go there and see what all the kids get. 3 gyms, 4 BB fields, an awsome FB stadium, gigantic library, huge Chemisty/anatomy labs, elevators, you name it. Even 3 LCD TVs in the cafeteria. In the end the change was completely worth it I guess.
