Here they come!!! July 10 - Miami, FL @ Dolphins Stadium after the whole $100.00 to join their little club, im not sure if i wanna go. i saw stuart coopland years ago in a band call animal logic & he was great. i saw sting a few year ago & i was pretty disappointed. too many hummer driving yuppies dancing around waving their cell phones in the air. it was like a bad wedding reception. don't get me wrong, im still a big big fan (i have everything they have every recorded on my ipod & a few bootleg concert dvds) but im not sure if i wanna help buy sting another jaguar. you can almost guarantee they will have some great concert dvd for sale as soon as they end their tour. this way i can enjoy them from the comfort of my own home. does anyone else feel like this or am i getting old?

you know i don't think that getting old has to do anything with it, unless you want to count the wisdom...i mean, you said it yourself peter, they are going to push this to the limit of commecial excess...hi ticket prices, dvd's and various merchandising...for what? will there be passion? will there be hunger? will there be the 'fuck-you' mentality of the early '80s? no if you want that then you go see the Pouges in NYC...it will be a much better show at probably half the cost.
so there is the wisdom...why pay up to two hundred dollars for a show that you could recreate in you living room, when you pay a fraction to go see a band that is up and coming and creating something new?
I wish i could have seen the police pre-synchronicity...i love copeland's drumming style, and still think sting (despite his holier-than-thou approach) wrote some kick-ass songs, and played a mean bass to boot.

I don't know, I see your view of it Pete. The way I see it is, I pay $40-$45 a ticket to see Joe Satriani at the H.O.B. every year and that's my extent of concert going. If I pass on the G3 tour this year ($50) and go to the Police ($50) I still pay the same. Is it a purely commercialised concert, sure it is, but what big band reunion concert isn't? Hell, Meatloaf wants $51 for a ticket to his new show, the Stones will tour again and they charge $200 for a ticket. Having seen the Ghost in the Machine and Synchonicity tour I could call it a day, but being a huge fan, I gotta say there's nothing like seeing them and experience it all again live. But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong

i understand totally. last time U2 was in florida i paid big big bucks for floor tickets because my wife has never seen them before. but i also know bands like fugazi can tour almost constantly since the 80s, selling out everywhere they play & still keep ticket under seven dollars.
i really do have mixed feelings about the whole thing.

You know the $ 50.00 seats will be gone in a heart beat. I have seen Sting on tour so it wont be devastating to not go. I remember Duran Duran coming to HOB with just three of the original members and charging $50.00. Some people pay that amount to go to football games and higher. I guess it just has to be worthwile enough. I probably wont get to see them because they're playing on the weekday not close to me. But oh well, I have other things in my life right now that are more important.

The Pogues rock!! I first got turned on to them in the early '90s. I try to convert anybody that seems even remotely interested. I'm jealous Pete!
On the subject of concert ticket pricing, we go to a couple of shows a year and the prices always make me cringe. My wife is getting real tired of me telling her that I saw so-and-so for $16. I can't for the life of me remember paying more than that in the day, except for when I saw The Outfield and Night Ranger (which were dinner seats at the Sunrise DT).
Some of the best shows I've seen lately are Big Head Todd and The Monsters and James Taylor. James Taylor just puts on a great show, we see him at Red Rocks almost every time he comes to town. BHTM always seem to put on something extra because they are local to the area. They also usually have local talent join them on stage.
BTW, If you've never seen a show at Red Rocks, it's worth a plane ticket to Denver. 'nuf said.

wow....no one has said anything in 24 hrs....and the last 1 was me...anyways it must be flashback 80's. Genesis is getting back together for a tour. i remember when no matter what station you put on it was either genesis or a phill collins song. they say they do not need the money, yet seats will be going for $225...HMMM the reunited Genesis will visit North America on a fall tour that begins Sept. 7 in Toronto, the group announced this morning (March 7) at a media event in New York. So far, 13 dates have been announced through Oct. 12 in Los Angeles but more will be added. Some tickets begin going on sale this weekend.
The trio, comprised of Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks, acknowledged they had discussions a couple of years ago with former members Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett about touring behind a complete performance of the 1974 album "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway."
But after Gabriel said he couldn't commit due to obligations with a still-unfinished album, Collins, Rutherford and Banks decided to go out alone for the first time since 1992. "This is a separate thing," Collins said. "But 'Lamb' may still happen in a few years time."
Banks promised "there will be one or two songs that go back a bit farther" into the band's back catalog than on previous tours, and that the familiar Genesis medleys will be part of the set list. Rutherford added that there will be more of an emphasis on Collins playing drums alongside Chester Thompson. "Two drummers is a very powerful sound," he said.
Interestingly, there is no corporate sponsor attached to the Turn It on Again tour, top seats for which will sell for $225. "We're not doing it for the money, let's face it," Collins said. "We're not trying to come out of this with a fistful of dollars. It's very rewarding to know there's still people out there that liked us the first time around."
