Okay, how to keep the board alive......hmmmmmmmmm......
We have random threads here and there but I was hoping to start one where we could all come back to and check in to also.
Sort of a boring "what I did yesterday" type of thread where we just chat sorta.
Okay, I'll start:
Last week we did some very fun things, we booked a CRUISE (yipee!) on Carnival. We leave from Jacksonville on October 27th for 5 nights with 2 stops - Bahammas and Key West. For the very first time Steve and I are going alone without the rats, err I mean our boys lol!
It'll be our 3rd together and my 6th overall. I've been posting to a Cruise Critics dot com site and have already 'met' at least 10 others who are on our same boat. We'll be there over Halloween and can't for the life of us figure out what costumes to take (if any) and we also havent' yet figured out any excursions to take either since we mostly just want to go for the R&R this time.
Any of you been on cruises?
Also last week we went to out local County Fair (Champaign Co.) and the fun one was the Ohio State Fair which we attended 2 days ago and got to see the Charlie Daniels Band!
My part time job which is temporary (seasonal) ends next month and I've been listing more items on Ebay.
Any of you guys do Ebay?
My friend and I went and saw Step Brothers over the weekend and it was freakin hilarious! ;D
Well, thats my boring (lol) update. Hope to see more from you all to come.....
See ya!

Okay...here's my mostly boring addition to this thread: Bought a house...closed on May 27th...a "fixer-upper" and one of thousands of foreclosure homes here in PSL...a great deal on a great house. Needed a lot of TLC, but mostly all cosmetic fixes. So, for the first time EVER, I am now a proud homeowner! Kids getting ready to start school again...my daughter will turn 15 next month (yikes) and is bugging the crap out of me as to when we can start practicing driving. OMG...kill me now! LOL. Doesn't seem that long ago that I was begging my mom to let me "practice" my driving skills! I feel old.

Okay, my status update on the boring and mundane things I did this weekend ...
I painted ... no, not glamorous artistic painting ... but house painting. We are owner/builders of our soon-to-be new home. We are building it right on our acreage so I get to see it everyday, and everyday, I have to chose between hard labor or guilt over not doing hard labor.
I also mowed, did school shopping for the kids, did a direct mailing for my business advertising, drafted some divorce settlement agreements, taught my Bible study class, and watched some Olympic events. I did all of this alone (no hubby) because there was a homicide in DeLand so hubby was called out for the entire weekend. Just like the A &E show, The First 48, he works to solve the case before it gets cold. He was called out at midnight on Saturday night and they had their man in custody by 10pm last night. Good tag. He just made Detective Sgt., by the way. Too bad we are now on opposite sides of the law.
Funny story, last week I had to be in 2 places at once. I was running late for court, having just left the county jail after meeting with a client. The Judge's assistant was on vacation and I couldn't get word to the Judge so I called the prosecutors' secretary to ask her to let the prosecutors know I was in route so they could notify the Judge. The message they got from their secretary? "Ms. Jaques has been detained at the jail." My former state attorney colleagues thought that I had really stepped into the dark side of the law!
In celebration of the Olympics, we have been having themed dinner nights. So far we have celebrated Italy, Mexico, and of course, China. Tonight, I am not sure what international faire to partake in ... maybe we will support Germany (Need some recipes from Jeff H.!)

Okay, so this evening's Olympic themed dinner did not feature Germany, but rather, Thailand. I made Pad Thai with homemade Peanut Sauce.
I think tomorrow night will feature Indian cuisine in celebration of India earning its first gold medal ever. They won the gold in shooting.
My kids think I've lost my mind.
Maybe I need to get some swedish recipes from Beppe!

google the "smith driving system", we use a modified version of this driving system at UPS.. It REALLY works.. video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3448022022854796401bad 80's video, but good information make your kids learn it, then I'll send you some more stuff, it'd be good if you learned it too , and went thru it aloud as you are driving to make them aware of just how active "normal" safe driving is

Congrats to Clark on his first triathalon. That is quite an accomplishment ... makes me tired to think about it.
Is everyone here aware of woot.com? Woot is "one deal, one day". You can get some pretty nifty electronic equipment for cheap prices. They post one item per day and sell until sold out or the day ends, whichever comes first. There is also a shirt.woot that has some pretty unique t-shirt offers. Each day, they feature a shirt that was designed by a viewer in response to their themed competition (derby). Woot is the first website I hit each morning. I recently got a sweet 4gb refurbished ipod for like $40 bucks.

Wow this thread took off! Let me go back and forth to reply to everyone... Clark - hey Pete you see my auctions, I'm Rich, I'm Rich, I loved your question BTWDO TELL CLARK! Whats your Ebay ID? I post on the Trust and Safety Boards which is a very cool forum board where people show up after being victims of fraud and stuff- wonderful board to learn about how to avoid the pitfalls of Ebay land. I've been a member since 99, love love love Ebay! MY ID is Medicswife2002. Wow on the triathalon!! Love your pics!! Congratulations, you are a better man than me lol! Funny you should mention the driving video--I have a vivid memory (and one I share with my kids) of almost running you over in front of your house! My mom actually LET me drive to a party you were having and as I rounded the corner you stood right out front and in a panic I hit the gas instead of the brakes and you went running!!! Sorry about that by the way lol.... Peter- my brother seems to think there is a new elmo doll type thing coming out soon that will do well if you buy a few & put them on ebay soon after they go on sale. he thinks they will be all the rage this holiday season. I haven't heard of this new doll yet, what's it called? My last purchase was so cool, got a cell phone battery replacement that Verizon store wanted 20 some dollars for - for 4 bucks total (including shipping!) Tammi- Bought a house...closed on May 27th...a "fixer-upper" and one of thousands of foreclosure homes here in PSL...a great deal on a great house. Needed a lot of TLC, but mostly all cosmetic fixes. So, for the first time EVER, I am now a proud homeowner!CONGRATULATIONS GIRL! Fixer-uppers are the best I think and no doubt this is absolutely the best time for buyers out there, I'm sure you got a fantastic deal! Our home was built in 1890 but has great bones...we've already redone our porch, repainted a bunch inside, had plumbing updated, replaced kitchen appliances, had fun planning my perinial gardens, etc... Tammy- In celebration of the Olympics, we have been having themed dinner nights. So far we have celebrated Italy, Mexico, and of course, China.Okay, first of all I want to come to YOUR house for dinner, wow, you are creative and energetic aren't you? The message they got from their secretary? "Ms. Jaques has been detained at the jail."THAT is a hilarious story girl! And your hubby's job has me jealous...I have literally hundreds of hours recorded of all the shows-- 48 hours, arrest and trial, forensic files, snapped, you name it...Investigations and scientific aspects of crime solving to me is so incredibly interesting!! You also have a home going up, that is stressful but very cool, huh? Thats been a future dream of ours - to someday plan and build a new house. Thanks, I have bookmarked the woot.com site, I love to get tips like that! One of the best deals online that I enjoy getting on a regular basis is through Restaurants.com. I am on their mailing list and just this week they had an 80% off deal in honor of 8-8-08. So, their 25 dollar food certificate which they normally sell for $10 - went for $2.00!!!! Can't beat that with a stick, getting $25 dollars of food for $2!! Every week its a new discount code, I recommend everyone get on their mailing list. Well, that was a lot of updates, keep 'em coming you all! ;D

Today, I worked late and then had to take my oldest to the train station for a trip so I didn't get home until almost 11. Since I wasn't home for the Olympic FanFest ... I told hubby he must follow the theme. He made Polish Sausage! I have to give him credit for pulling out that one. Easy ... and in keeping with the theme.
Peter, I am totally with you on the hiring thing. Even when I had a staff, I have always been of the "I can do it better/faster myself" mindset. It frustrates me to have to tell someone how to do something or what I expect. I have been on my own now for almost 4 months and I have enough work that I desperately need a secretary ... at least someone to answer the phone (which never stops ringing), keep my schedule, and make sure I get where I need to be ... but I am afraid because ultimately, I am responsible for whatever mistakes the secretary makes. I know I will have a hard time committing to the idea of even hiring somebody because of my "trust issues".

"Congrats on the new home Tammi. We just got an offer on our house in Colorado today, so, with any luck, we'll be buying a home down here soon. ". Good luck with selling your house Jeff...my dad moved out to Colorado about 2 years ago to a town called Monument...they absolutely love it out there. There are a TON of great deals on houses here at the moment...I was fortunate enough to pay cash for my house, which made it all the more sweet...but may have to take a small equity line at some point to re-do the kitchen...no hurry though
