Talk about memories. I remember traveling to Ft. Lauderdale to see the Kiss concert. (Lick it up was the album.) I consider myself very lucky in that my kids love the rock and metal I play from the 80's. I've got about 7000 songs or so on my comps (3 full copies of my music collection on 3 comps in case of drive failures, acts of God, ect.) Most of these are our beloved 80's bands. (No George Michael or Wham!!!)
I have in recent years found that there are some great current bands whose style remind me of the 80's, and maybe as I get older..NOT old, that my taste in music has grown.
A "brief" list:
ACDC. AFI, Alter Bridge, Berlin, Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, Def Leppard (still hair metal gods), Dio (Anyone ever figure out what a "Holy Diver" is?), Dream Theater, Duran Duran, Eurythmics, Fastway (yes 80's...lol), Godsmack, Great White, Green Day, GNR (if you don't know....bah!), Hall & Oates (yes...gay I know.), Huey Lewis (possibly gay...I know..lol), Iron Maiden (GODS!!!!), Journey, Judas Priest, Kiss, Linkin Park, Loverboy, Marilyn Manson, Metallica (still puts on a kick ass show even thought IMHO their newest album sucks ass), Nevermore (80's), NiN, Nirvana (one of the few decent 90's bands), Ozzy, P.O.D., Pantera, Phil Collins, Pink Floyd, Queensryche, R.E.M, Ratt, RHCP (like you don't know who this is???), REO Speedwagon, Roxette, Seether, Seven Mary Three, Shadows Fall, Sisters of Mercy, Stabbing Westward, Staind, Styx, System of a Down, Tesla, The Police, Tom Petty, Toto, Triumph, Van Halen, Viodvod, Warrant, White Lion, White Snake, and Yes.
Please note, the trick is to figure out the 80's bands from the rest. LOL!!! These are a good portion of what I currently listen to.
The reason I put in non-80's bands is to show that while the 80's was the high point in good popular music, there is quite a bit of new music that kicks ass. My favorite line I use on my kids....TRUST ME.
Later folks.
Lush.

ive wanted to comment on this topic for some time now. ive always considered myself kind of a music snob. even in high school. lord knows i spent more then my fair amount of time playing bad dance music (right james, do you remember THE NITE OUT?). as a matter of fact, the reason i dont dj anymore is i was sick of playing really really bad music.
i do have a soft place in my heart for some 80s music. as far as old stuff my ipod has:
the alarm, beastie boys, boogie down productions, the clash, cowboy junkies, cure, deacon blue, dead kennedys, depeche mode, devo, elvis costello, eric b & rakim, george jones, guadalcanal diary, honeydrippers, hothouse flowers, johnny cash, jose feliciano, led zeppelin, miles davis, the misfits, morrissey, motörhead, pixies, pogues, police, prince, public enemy, psychedelic furs, slick rick, the smiths, social distortion, u2, van halen (with david lee roth), waterboys
comerical radio sucks but we have a very good college station here in town. i try to keep up on new indie rock type stuff. in one way or the other ive been involved with the music scene here in orlando for the past 10 years. ive got lots of friends in bands so the wife & i go out to concerts often. most of the time im the oldest guy in the room but it still makes me happy.
the 10 best albums i downloaded in 2006 are
1. Gasoline Heart- You Know Who You Are 2. The Futureheads- News and Tributes 3. Jeremy Enigk- World Waits 4. Peanut Butter Wolf - The Jukebox 45's 5. Cold War Kids- Robbers & Cowards 6. Dogs Die In Hot Cars- Please Describe Yourself 7. Goodmorning Valentine- Steady Your Hands 8. The Hold Steady- Boys and Girls in America 9. The Streets- Original Pirate Material 10. The Decemberists- Picaresque
check em out & let me know what you all are listening to.

I didn't know Sal fired you?? He sold the club to the American Legion, the're still there right? he sure did. it was for the best. it forced me to learn how to mix records for real & not just bang songs into each other. i got a job at a place called "the studio" up the street from martin county high. i meet a girl there & dated her for 4 years. she is the reason i moved to orlando. do you remember bobby willis? that dude was funny. we always found a way to piss him off. do you remember going to the radio station to cut commericals for the club? i kept referring to the prizes he would throw out as "laser crap" & he finally told me to leave & did it himself.

How can I forget Bobby Willis from Z93 FM Home of the Lazer hits HAHA!! He'd call me at home and tell me to call in and request particular songs. His girlfriend Jodi was pretty hot.
Didn't he call you Peter V on the promos?? I know he called me Jammin' Jimmy for those awful matinees promos I had to do. I still have some pics of him when I took my cousin over to the station during one of those recording sessions

Along the lines of 80's music...I am sitting here watching (??) Pink Floyd's The Wall on VH1 Classic because I've never seen it before and I suppose it's one of those movies that everyone should see at least once (along with the Rocky Horror Picture Show). What the hell is up with this movie?! It is by far the most f*d up movie I've ever seen. Is it because I never did drugs that I don't get it?!lol I'm actually getting a headache but I can't bring myself to change the channel...

A synopsis of the movie goes like this. The Wall traces the life of the fictional protagoinst, Pink Floyd, from his boyhood days in war-torn England to his self-imposed isolation as a world-renowned rock star, leading to a climax that is as questionably cathartic as it is destructive.

That was so profound, and very accurate! Did you come up with that or were you quoting it?

i do have a soft place in my heart for some 80s music. as far as old stuff my ipod has: the alarm, beastie boys, boogie down productions, the clash, cowboy junkies, cure, Love the lists. I miss a great radio station out of Chicago called WXRT. Their motto was "Everything... in no particular order". But, no "Diamond Girl" on XRT! "Everything" was lots of indie music and more obscure, but awesome, tracks from popular modern rock, jazz, and blues artists. I think I'm going to have to see if I can find XRT on satellite.... Peter, I saw Cowboy Junkies in concert in Philly. They were opening for an awesome band called Big Head Todd and The Monsters. While I love the Junkies music, they sucked it up in concert! We were so disappointed. And it couldn't have been the venue b/c Big Head rocked! If you've never checked out Todd Mohr and Big Head Todd they are playing at House of Blues on Feb. 10.
